Morgan Rogers signs new Aston Villa deal

Morgan Rogers has signed a new five-and-a-half-year contract at Aston Villa to complete a wonderful week for the 22-year-old.

Attacking midfielder Rogers joined Villa in February from Middlesbrough for a fee reported to rise to £15m depending on certain clauses being met and has enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence ever since.

He helped Unai Emery’s side clinch a place in the Champions League and emerged as a key component in their challenge for silverware domestically and in Europe.

Rogers, who hails from nearby Halesowen, has scored three goals this season and added a further three assists, form that has seen him rewarded with his new deal running until 2030.

Rogers’ progress also caught the eye of England interim boss Lee Carsley, who promoted him into the senior squad for this international break and he made his debut off the bench in the 3-0 win in Greece last week and also appeared in Sunday’s 5-0 thrashing of the Republic of Ireland at Wembley.

Rogers was at Manchester City before Middlesbrough but failed to make a senior appearance for the club, instead spending loan spells at Lincoln, Bournemouth and Blackpool.
