Given that the Whites sit at the top of the second tier having scored the most goals and conceded less than all but Burnley, it probably isn’t too much of a surprise to see that they didn’t get involved in the transfer window.

Leeds signed a young player in January but didn’t announce it

It was well documented that Leeds didn’t sign a player in January, but that isn’t entirely the case.

The Yorkshire side were looking to be active towards the end of the window, as they had a loan offer rejected for Cameron Archer and were also keen on signing Adam Armstrong from Southampton. But in the end, neither deal crossed the line before the clock struck 11 p.m.

Alan Nixon has however reported that the Whites did in fact complete a signing; they just didn’t announce it. Nixon states that Leeds completed the signing of young goalkeeper Robbie Cook from Perth Glory; an announcement just never came from the club. The 17-year-old had been on trial at Thorp Arch, and a deal has been struck for him to join the Championship side on a permanent basis.

Neil Warnock reveals the Leeds star who’d be a dream to manage

Cook still has a lot to do to be in contention for first-team football, but while he waits for his chance, one player in Leeds’ first team is impressing plenty former boss Neil Warnock has stated that Leeds’ Daniel James would be a dream to manage.

Speaking on talkSPORT (5th February) relayed by MOT Leeds News, Warnock said James is his “favourite player” in the league.

“When I watched [Summerville and Rutter] in the play-off [final] last year, I thought they were too individual, those lads. I remember pulling Daniel James – he’s my favourite player in the Championship; he has been for years, and he wasn’t playing that day.

“I remember saying to him, ‘if I had one player I wish I could’ve managed, it would have been you’ – because I love his attitude, and I think it breeds it when you’ve got people like Daniel James.”

The Welshman was a key player in Leeds reaching the Championship play-off final last season, as he scored 13 goals and registered seven assists in 40 league games. That form and importance has continued into this 24/25 campaign, as he’s got eight goals and six assists in 24 Championship matches.

James has become a key player under Farke, in fact undroppable at times, and if the Whites are to return to the Premier League, he is likely going to have a big say in them doing so.
