PK Kemsley BLASTS Dorit for Calling Him a “Full-Blown Alcoholic” on RHOBH!
Paul “PK” Kemsley slams Dorit Kemsley for labeling him a “full-blown alcoholic,” calling her claims hurtful, misguided, and thinks she’s exploiting his struggles for a storyline.
“I was shocked, disappointed, and upset [about] what Dorit had to say,” PK admitted on Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast. “I’m really proud and public about my sobriety, and I’m 12 months and two weeks [sober].”
PK revealed that his decision to go public with his sobriety was meant to inspire others, calling it one of the toughest journeys of his life. However, he noted that Dorit’s comments reflected a lack of understanding about addiction.
“Dorit’s lack of understanding about sobriety is not her fault,” he said. “She hasn’t worked a program and hasn’t done what I’ve done. So there is no ‘fully blown alcoholic.’ You’re either an alcoholic or you’re not.”
While PK acknowledged that his alcoholism played a role in their marital struggles, he emphasized that it was only a part of the larger picture. “If you understand the disease, alcoholism is a symptom. It’s not a cause,” he explained. “The reality is you have to get to what the cause was underneath.”
Watching the premiere episode, PK admitted, was “emotionally difficult.” He reflected on Dorit’s comments about his past financial struggles, including gambling debts and a bankruptcy, which he claimed were inaccurately portrayed. “The bankruptcy and all the gambling debts were well before I met her,” he clarified.
“I haven’t gambled since 2008. I don’t drink. The bankruptcy was 2010, [2009] … all of that was past history.” PK also addressed the timeline of their separation, which they agreed upon in May of this year. He revealed that he initiated the split after noticing Dorit’s unhappiness.
“It was the all-time low and I’d said, ‘This isn’t working and we need some time apart,’” he recalled.
Reflecting on Dorit’s claim that he’s a “full-blown alcoholic,” PK corrected her terminology. “I’m in full-blown recovery,” he stated. “That’s the term: ‘full blown.’ That’s where it should be used.”
Despite the tension, PK expressed sadness rather than anger over their situation. “I never thought that us two, who are the tightest couple in the f*cking world, would ever be in a position where I’m watching this woman I love, the mother of my kids, talking negatively about me on a TV show,” he said.
“It’s just unusual. It’s an unusual concept.”
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 14 airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
