PSL 2025 Draft Rescheduled to January 13 in Lahore

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a new date for the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) draft. The event was originally scheduled for 11th January in Gwadar, Balochistan. However, it will now take place on 13th January at Lahore Fort’s Huzoori Bagh.

Why the Change in the PSL Draft Date?

The PCB pointed to weather forecasts as the main reason for pushing the draft back by two days. The shift was made to give the production crew and broadcasters enough time to get everything ready for the event. It is expected to rain in Gwadar on 11th January.

A rehearsal for the draft ceremony will take place on January 12, allowing the PSL management to iron out any logistical kinks ahead of the main event.

PCB’s Official Statement

The PCB issued a press release confirming the rescheduled draft date and venue. “The HBL PSL Player Draft has been rescheduled and will now take place on 13 January at Huzoori Bagh, Lahore Fort,” the statement read. The board also mentioned that Gwadar would remain a key location on the HBL PSL 2025 Trophy Tour scheduled for March.

The event will be broadcast live from 12:30 PM PKT on January 13, with all six franchises assembling their squads for the much-anticipated tenth edition of the league.

Qadir Khawaja Confirms the News

Prominent journalist Qadir Khawaja broke the news on social media, confirming the postponement. He shared that the PSL management is keen to ensure a smooth and well-organized draft process.

“Exclusive: The drafting date of Pakistan Super League Season 10 has been changed,” Khawaja posted on X (formerly Twitter). “The ceremony will now take place in Lahore on January 13. Rehearsal will be held on January 12. The date change was due to the forecast of rain in Gwadar. The PSL management wants the event to run efficiently.”

Key Players Register for the PSL Draft

This year’s PSL draft is set to feature some high-profile international names, including former Australian opener David Warner, retired New Zealand pacer Tim Southee, and Bangladesh stars Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman. More than 80 overseas players have registered for the draft.

Interestingly, the PSL 2025 season will run parallel to the Indian Premier League (IPL), providing the PCB with a chance to rope in international stars who went unsold in the IPL 2024 Mega Auction. While salary caps could deter some players, others may be tempted to join the PSL for the chance to play in front of passionate crowds.
