Rebecca Minkoff SPEAKS OUT on RHONY Exit – Says She Was MISREPRESENTED & DONE With Mean-Girl Drama!
Rebecca Minkoff is getting real about why she walked away from The Real Housewives of New York after just one season.
The fashion designer and former The Real Housewives of New York cast member, 43, had previously announced her departure in a February 4 Instagram post, stating it was time to “turn the page.” But now, she’s sharing even more insight into her decision, revealing that the reality TV world wasn’t the right fit for her.
In an interview with In Touch, Rebecca admitted that one of her biggest frustrations with the show was how she was portrayed on screen. “I think it was a number of things,” she explained.
“I think that the way in which I was portrayed is not who I am. It’s not who you see on Instagram or my podcast or if you see me speak or my book—that is not me, and that was really disappointing.”
While RHONY has a reputation for high drama, Rebecca made it clear that she wasn’t interested in playing into the mean girl culture that often fuels the show’s storylines. Aside from feeling misrepresented, Rebecca shared that she simply wanted to prioritize a more positive environment in her life. “I also felt like I wanted to chase a feeling of positivity,” she said.
She pointed to her philanthropic work, including her efforts to help raise money for the Los Angeles Fire Department, as the kind of energy she wants to surround herself with.
“That is a great feeling,” she said. “Chasing a feeling of feeling stabbed in the back, or mean girls, or, again, media twisting my words—that doesn’t feel good, and I’m in a position where I can choose if I do it or not.” While RHONY wasn’t the right fit, Rebecca isn’t ruling out a return to reality TV.
She teased that she has ideas for a more uplifting project focused on supporting women.
“I’ve had several ideas that I think, maybe now, people are ready for,” she hinted.
“I am in conversations with a couple of production companies.” For now, Rebecca is stepping away from the drama and focusing on her fashion empire, podcast, and philanthropic work—all on her own terms.
The Real Housewives of New York is now streaming on Peacock.
