Roommates, the ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ cast could shrink by one next season! Karen Huger is headed to jail for her recent DUI conviction. The news hit the internet soon after a Maryland judge sentenced the self-proclaimed Grande Dame early Wednesday (February 26), per NBC News.
Social media is gagging over the news that the 61-year-old will be spending time behind bars for the DUI incident. The judge gave Huger two years in jail but suspended one. In addition to one year jailed, Karen Huger has to pay $2,900 in fines and be on probation for five years. Additionally, Karen can’t get behind a car wheel for at least a year after her release. If she violates her probation, NBC News reports that she could serve the suspended year. Huger wasn’t allowed a break between her sentencing, and officials took her into custody immediately after.
State Attorney Speaks On The Sentencing
According to the Montgomery County State Attorney ohn McCarthy, Karen Huger was not the expectation to the rule. In a recent statement, McCarthy stressed that “driving under the influence is extremely dangerous behavior.”
“We prosecute thousands of D.U.I. cases every year and take them seriously,” Attorney John McCarthy said. “This defendant’s case was not handled any differently based on the facts and her traffic history. We encourage the public to always drive sober and practice safety on the roads.”
More Details About Karen Huger’s DUI Conviction
The sentencing happened less than a year after she became intoxicated and slammed her luxury car into a street sign, per NBC News. All that went down in March 2024, and despite her “reckless” driving cited by cops, Karen came out uninjured.
The same can’t be said for Huger’s rep, though. It’s scraped and bruised if you let the internet tell it. Most recently, the ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ star opted out of the season nine reunion show. Karen’s manager revealed last month that the Grande Dame was in rehab following the conviction. Long story short, the reality TV star took her chances with a trial. Despite her emotional pleas about grief management after her mother’s death, a jury found her guilty on five out of six charges days before Christmas. That same month, news outlets released footage of Karen’s encounter with the cops, which quickly went viral.
