Rohit Sharma angrily yells at female fan over persistent ‘Shubman Gill’ demand at MCG

India captain Rohit Sharma was frustrated at a fan’s request during the training session at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) ahead of the Boxing Day Test against Australia. Indian players finally had their first practice session on the fresh wickets in the outdoor nets of the stadium.

After the training session, Rohit walked back towards the spectators who had surrounded the nets to watch their favorite stars train. As Rohit started walking towards the dressing room after meeting with the spectators, a young girl asked the Indian skipper to call Shubman Gill.

Rohit Sharma waved his hand and signalled that Gill had already gone after completing his training session. But the fan was adamant and kept on asking Rohit to call Gill. This left Rohit frustrated prompting him to say loudly, “Kaha se bulau (How should I get him).”

While speaking to RevSportz, the girl later clarified that she is a big fan of Shubman Gill. The fan admitted that she was late but that was only due to her medical condition as she was putting a bandage on her fractured leg. She further wished Shubman Gill the best wishes for the next match and wants him to be back in form.

“My leg is broken. I put on a bandage and came. Yesterday I saw him briefly, but could not say anything because I started crying. I came a little late today because of my leg, hence I could not meet Shubman (Gill). But I hope he makes a comeback,” the Shubman Gill fan said.

Shubman Gill’s batting form

Shubman Gill has found it tough to get going so far this series. The 25-year-old has scored 60 runs in two Tests so far at an average of just 20. Being the No. 3 batter for his team, India wants more runs from Gill at the top.

He is regarded as a future star in Indian cricket but needs to show his worth with the bat. Although Gill has been impressive in the home Tests, he has struggled in overseas Test matches ever since his 91 at Gabba during the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The lack of footwork and the tendency to play in an aggressive mode has often caused trouble for Gill. He has played 31 Tests so far and scored 1860 runs at an average of 35.76. The right-hander has struck 5 hundreds and 7 fifties in his career so far.

Rohit Sharma’s struggles continue

Not only Shubman Gill, but Rohit Sharma too is struggling to get into form. Rohit has scored 19 runs in two Tests so far at an average of 6.33. He missed the first Test and came into the side from the second Test match.

The Indian captain changed his batting position to No. 6 after KL Rahul’s success at the top order. But Rohit’s struggle for runs has continued. India needs runs from two of their premier batters to put Australia under pressure.
