Rohit Sharma’s Test career as opener over! Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul named new opening duo

India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma has made a massive sacrifice for his team in the ongoing Australia tour. The captain of the team didn’t come to open the innings in the ongoing game against Australia’s PM XI, which is underway at the Manuka Oval in Canberra.

Rohit, who missed the first Test due to the birth of his second child, was expected to take back the opening spot. But that wasn’t the case as the India National Cricket Team skipper allowed KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal to carry on in the role in the ongoing game against Australia’s PM XI.

Rohit Sharma not likely to open the innings in the second Test against the Australia

This possibly gives a massive hint that Rohit won’t be opening the innings in the second Test against the Australia National Cricket Team. The pink-ball game between the teams will be played from 6th December at the Adelaide, Oval in Adelaide.

KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the innings in the absence of Rohit Sharma in the first Test

KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the innings in the absence of Rohit Sharma in the first Test. After failing in the first innings, the duo came up with a rollicking effort and slammed a 201-run partnership in the second innings, which is best by the Indian opening pair in Australia.

There were a lot of speculations that Rohit would be back at the top. Various reports suggested that KL Rahul would be batting at No.6. However, all that has been put to rest potentially with India National Cricket Team skipper not coming to open the innings in the game against Australia’s PM XI.

Even in the team sheet, Sharma’s name wasn’t slotted in the opening slot. The India National Cricket Team, as per that sheet, will be batting at No.5, and if that happens in the ongoing game, there are chances that the same might happen in Adelaide.

Rohit Sharma started his career as a middle-order batter in the Test cricket

Rohit, earlier in his career, started as a middle-order batter in the longest format of the game. He enjoyed a decent amount of success while batting down the order, and it was only in 2019 that he started opening the innings for the team in Test cricket.

Rohit Sharma’s best came as the opener of the team as he played some magnificent innings while batting at the top. Since 2019, he has been the best batter for the India National Cricket Team in the longest format of the game and is the leading run-getter for the team in the ICC World Test Championship.

Rohit, of late, has come under massive scanner for his poor outings with the bat. The premier batter failed in the entire home season and would be hoping to reply to his critics in style in the last four games of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
