Ruben Amorim offers new Alejandro Garnacho update as Chelsea links continue

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has refused to rule out an exit for winger Alejandro Garnacho, with Chelsea looking to lure the Argentina international away from Old Trafford.

Chelsea have been tracking Garnacho for several weeks and it was recently reported that the Blues will step up their pursuit of the 20-year-old, who started United’s 2-1 win over Rangers on Thursday.

Quizzed on Garnacho’s future at Old Trafford, Amorim offered plenty of praise for the winger but left the door open to a possible exit in the coming days.

“He’s playing for Manchester United,” Amorim stressed. “He was really important for us today. Let’s see in the next days.

“I think he’s improving in every aspect of the game. He was better today playing inside and also outside, changing positions. He’s improving the recovery position. You can see it.

“For the whole 90 minutes, he’s always there recovering and helping. Sometimes showing some frustration is really good because he wants more.”

Amorim has openly challenged Garnacho to improve his game if he wants to hold down a permanent spot in the United lineup, and the boss admitted he reiterated that demand on Thursday.

“I think he has potential to be so much better in every situation of the game,” Amorim continued. “What I can say is that he understood what I was trying to do and was really clear. I just want to help him. In the end, it’s the players who do the job.”

United are not looking to actively sell Garnacho this month but their financial situation, ahead of a potential squad rebuild under Amorim, may force them to accept a suitable bid as it would count as 100% profit when accounted for by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
