RECAP: ‘Sister Wives’ Kody Brown STILL IN LOVE With Janelle Despite Telling Robyn Something Different!
Janelle Reflects on Meri’s Spiritual Release and Considers Her Own
In the Sister Wives episode that aired Sunday, February 2, Janelle Brown embarks on a cross-country road trip with Christine Brown and her husband, David Woolley.
As they travel, the two discuss their former sister wife, Meri Brown, and her recent separation from Kody Brown. Both women express hope that Meri will find happiness and possibly love again.
“I wish Meri well. I really do hope, like, I really want all the good things for her because I feel like she’s been through the wringer,” Janelle, says. Christine, agrees, responding, “I hope she can get in a loving relationship.”
Janelle then reminds Christine that Meri received a spiritual release from their former church, which officially ended her marriage to Kody. In a confessional, Janelle admits the idea of a spiritual release is something she is considering for herself as well.
“I know Meri has just recently gotten a release like what we call a release, which is a divorce. And it’s made me think, ‘Huh, I kind of like the idea of getting a spiritual release,’” Janelle says. “But I don’t even know who to call.”
Kody Weighs in on Spiritual Separation
Kody also addresses the topic in his own confessional, revealing that he never felt the need for a formal spiritual divorce from either Meri or Christine. However, when it comes to Janelle, he questions if there’s a deeper connection still tying them together.
“I didn’t feel like I needed a spiritual divorce from Meri, and I didn’t feel like I needed a spiritual divorce from Christine,” Kody admits. “I don’t know if there’s some kind of karmic connection that Janelle and I are obligated to still.”
Under the guidelines of their former church — at least as explained by Kody’s remaining wife, Robyn Brown— a woman is not considered spiritually divorced until she has been intimate with another man. But Janelle and Christine strongly disagree with that notion.
“I just think that’s bulls—, I’m sorry,” Janelle tells Christine during their road trip. “I mean, I think that’s dogmatic. That’s a dogma I used to hear and I used to be like, ‘OK, whatever.’”
Christine also pushes back on the idea, saying in a confessional, “Go have s*x with somebody, then that marriage is over. You can move on!”
Meri also weighs in on the belief, stating in her own confessional, “Until I have sex with somebody, that means I’m still attached to Kody? I don’t think it means that. I think it really is more for if you’re going to go outside of your marriage and have sexual relations, then now that marriage is nullified.”
Kody Says He Wasn’t Supposed to Know About Janelle’s Move
In another revelation, Kody claims he found out about Janelle’s move to North Carolina purely by accident.
“I don’t know how to explain this. It was never intended for me to know that Janelle was moving,” the TLC star shares in a confessional. “One of my children, at their admission, slipped up and told me.”
Kody further explains that the child, whom he did not name, asked him to “please don’t repeat that or pretend you never heard it.”
While Janelle does not explicitly say she kept the move from Kody on purpose, she does acknowledge that she didn’t see a reason to inform him.
“I didn’t tell Kody,” she admits. “I didn’t see any reason to tell him. Our lives are not overlapping in any way. It just didn’t really feel like it was any of his business what I was doing.”
Janelle No Longer Sees Meri as Family
Janelle also makes it clear that she no longer considers Kody or Meri family and compares their current dynamic to dissolving a failed business.
“I’m so, so glad Meri understands why it’s wise to have a lawyer because we’re not family anymore,” Janelle says. “I mean this is people now who are trying to dissolve a business that went bad, basically.”
She is referring to the process of dividing their Coyote Pass property, which she, Meri, Robyn, and Kody purchased in 2018. Christine had already sold her share for $10 in 2022 after leaving Kody.
Janelle and Meri had previously discussed hiring lawyers in the January 26 episode, following news that Kody and Robyn wanted to sell Coyote Pass. However, Janelle and Meri weren’t sure that selling was in their best interest.
“I feel like Kody and Robyn probably have some plan of what they want to do and how they want to handle it,” Meri says during a one-on-one interview. “I think that Janelle has some sort of plan, and I know that I do as well. And none of us are talking to each other because none of us trust each other.”
Janelle and Meri Agree That Legal Counsel Is Necessary
Janelle ultimately decides that hiring legal representation is the best way to protect her interests.
“I think it is time for somebody to be pushing [my] interests,” she states, revealing that she has already spoken to a lawyer. She also suggests Meri do the same, which Meri agrees with.
Later, in a confessional, Meri elaborates on her decision.
“I think that’s why I am going to get a lawyer to help me through this process,” she explains. “I feel like for quite a few years I’ve sat back and just not wanted to ruffle feathers, so I haven’t pushed the issue on many things, but I will push the issue now.”
With unresolved property disputes, shifting relationships, and lingering ties between Kody and his former wives, Sister Wives continues to deliver tension and drama as the season unfolds.
