Kirk Franklin Addresses Backlash Over Jamaica Performance

Kirk Franklin tackled some of the controversies from 2024 in a video he shared on Instagram. The full clip is available on his YouTube. In the footage, Franklin apologized for his choices and reflected on the biggest moments of his year.

He also addressed the backlash he received from his performance at the ‘Fun in the Son’ concert in Jamaica, according to the Christian Post. In the clip, Franklin said he didn’t expect his outfit to offend anyone, considering the hot weather, and he didn’t think it would come across as “disrespectful,” but it did.

“I’ve spent most of my career dancing and moving around and jumping on stage that I didn’t know that I would ever do anything that would ever offend anyone in any community, but it did. And because it did, I sincerely apologize,” Franklin said.

The ‘I Smile’ musician kept apologizing, sincerely saying he’ll always stay humble and open to hearing people and their concerns.

“I sincerely apologize because I never want to get to a place that I can’t learn, that I can’t learn what I need to do better, what I can do different to make sure that as I grow as a man, grow physically or in any aspect, that I’m always being humble enough and submissive enough to hear people and their concerns about anything being bigger than the message of Jesus,” Kirk continued.
