Masters of the Universe

THR now reports James Purefoy and Charlotte Riley have joined the cast of Masters of the Universe as King Randor and Queen Marlena, Prince Adam’s parents and the rulers of Eternia.


Dreadnought

Deadline reports Dave Bautista will star in Dreadnought, a dystopian sci-fi/action film from directors Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott. Written by Joseph Greenberg, the story follows “Max (Bautista), whose world was devastated when an alien species crash-landed on Earth, unleashing a deadly plague that claimed his wife and much of humanity. In the fragile society that remains, humans have learned to coexist with their extraterrestrial invaders. But for Max, survival isn’t enough. His older daughter, Greta, is dying from the disease. As her body weakens, an alien Sentinel lurks outside their home, drawing nearer and nearer as Greta takes her final breaths. This silent, unyielding predator is on a mission to collect her body to fulfill an unstoppable metamorphosis ritual. The government sanctions it. Society accepts it. But Max refuses to have anything else taken from him.”


The Night House

According to Variety, Jacob Tremblay and Aaron Paul will star as younger and older versions of same character in The Night House, an adaptation of the Jo Nesbø novel from director Jesper Ganslandt. The story concerns highschooler Richard (Tremblay), who “has been sent to live with relatives in the remote town of Ballantyne. One day, during an innocent prank call in a phone booth, Richard shockingly witnesses his classmate violently get sucked into the phone receiver and disappear without a trace. Police suspect Richard to be responsible, and no one believes his story except Karen–a fellow teenage outsider. As Richard and Karen try to understand their friend’s unspeakable death, they soon realize they have unleashed terrifying evil forces. In this twisted spin on a classic horror story, and as reality starts to blur, we must ask ourselves–can we truly trust Richard, and can he even trust himself?”


Unholy Song

Bloody-Disgusting additionally reports Jessica K. Chaves, Christopher Orozco, Quint Gabriel, Sean Gestl and Eric Parkinson will star in Unholy Song, a horror film inspired by the Miracle of the Gadarene Swine. Written and directed by Arthur G. Night, the story concerns a landlord who accidentally releases “an evil witch from its cursed tape.” Alongside his two new renters, they must “confront their fears and skepticism to cast the entity in the back into the bones of the swine–and forever trap the evil under the original spell.


Untitled Art Bell Project

According to Deadline, Amazon and Warner Bros. “among other” studios “have put bids in for a pitch” package from Radio Silence for a biopic starring Paul Giamatti as Art Bell, the paranormal DJ who “would broadcast his radio show from his home studio 65 miles west of Las Vegas, fielding unscreened telephone calls in a five-hour show on KNYE-FM called Coast to Coast.”


Stab/Scream 7

During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Scream 3′s Parker Posey stated she “pitched [her] agent” a real Stab movie–the fictitious film franchise set within the Scream universe.

The Silent Planet

Elias Koteas plays a convict on a prison planet who may-or-may-not have killed the family of his new “cellmate,” Briana Middleton, in the trailer for The Silent Planet, winner of the Audience Award for Best Canadian Feature at last year’s Fantasia Fest.


 

Widow’s Bay

TV Line reports Matthew Rhys will star in Widow’s Bay, a new series at Apple TV+ focusing on a “mysteriously cursed New England island and its superstitious citizens.” Rhys is said to play the town’s Jaws-esque mayor, “who refuses to believe the residents’ warnings.”


Ghosts

The world ends this February 13 according to the trailer for this week’s new episode of Ghosts.


Yellowjackets

Finally, Van (and Shauna) recap the first two seasons of Yellowjackets in a new clip from the premiere episode of season three.
