It’s hard to believe that it was almost exactly 15 years ago that Apple unveiled the first iPad and changed the world of portable tech forever. All this time later, the iPad is still the ultimate go-to tablet, and this 10th generation model is among the best ever. Amazon’s just dropped the iPad 10th Gen back down to $279, the same price it was selling for during the 2024 holiday buying frenzy.

The 10th Gen iPad boasts a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina screen that spreads across the entire body of the tablet, a new 12MP Landscape Ultra-Wide front camera for the best photos and videos of any iPad yet, ultra-fast Wi-Fi 6E, and the powerful A14 Bionic processor chipset, and somehow manages to pack all of these perks and many more into a $279 deal that you will really want to check out if it’s time to upgrade your existing tablet or get your very first iPad.
Big Perks, Small Price
The iPad made huge strides forward with its 10th generation model, and yet it’s still the least-expensive model in the iPad lineup. When you see the brand-new Pro starting at $999, the Air at $599, and even the little Mini at $499, the differences in features and performance with the 10th Gen iPad hardly warrant the hundreds of extra dollars in price.
Compare the 10th Gen iPad with the current Air and Mini models: All have Apple’s brilliant Liquid Retina display with True Tone, and the Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 connections of the 10th Gen iPad are only a tiny step down from the Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 of the 2024 Air and Mini editions. All work with the USB-C version of the Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard Folio, and all are charged via USB-C rather than Lightning, and the 10th Gen has the same robust 10-hour battery life of its pricier stablemates.
Lighter Than Air
Naming conventions aside, the 10th Gen iPad is actually lighter than the Air, by nearly a third of a pound. At 10.9 inches it sits at that sweet spot between a laptop-sized tablet that’s a little too big to comfortably carry and handle, and the Mini, which gets knocked for being barely larger than many iPhone models.
The 10th Gen iPad has been the unsung hero of the iPad lineup since its release in 2022 because it’s the Goldilocks tablet — not too big, not too small, not too pricey, not overly cheap. Across the board, it’s just right in every way possible for a tablet. Amazon’s 20% off deal taking the price back down to $279 is a great reminder of what a great tablet the 10th Gen iPad is.Â
