Vic Mensa Explains The Meaning Behind His Son Mansa Musa Mensa’s Name
The Chicago native named his baby Mansa Musa Mensa after the 1312-1337 West African ruler of the Mali Empire, Mansa Musa. Many scholars regard Mansa Musa as the richest man ever to live. His immeasurable access to Gold made him extremely wealthy. According to Forbes Africa, Musa was worth over $400 billion at the time of his passing in 1337.
The rapper says fatherhood is now the center of his world. To note, in 2021, Vic began his commitment to sobriety. He told US Weekly that since then, drugs and alcohol are no longer things he uses for escapism. Instead, he prioritizes meditation, working out, and reading on days he needs to reset. Additionally, he explained that these things have allowed him to be the best dad.
In a 2023 exclusive with The Shade Room, Vic shared his commitment to sobriety after a car crash. That moment changed his perspective on life and brought him closer to God.
“I had acknowledged that was a sign from God and to just get serious about my life. I strongly believe in the power of faith, and I also look at what people might call coincidences as being the universe or the creator’s way of communicating with us — going sober, I think, has given me a lot of perspective on myself a lot of perspective on my behavior, and ultimately, like a completely different sense of focus and purpose,” he said at the time.
