As Vin Diesel stepped onto the stage to present an award at the 2025 Golden Globes on Sunday night, one of his first remarks was a shoutout to his well-known frenemy, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

“Hey Dwayne,” Diesel said with a somewhat awkward smile, drawing hesitant laughter from the star-studded audience. Johnson, appeared unfazed by the mention, offering a subtle nod and a small smile in return.

The “Fast & Furious” franchise is known for its high-octane action and explosive stunts, but behind the scenes, the real drama unfolded between two of its biggest stars: Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Their feud, which simmered for years, made headlines and cast a shadow over one of Hollywood’s most successful film franchises.

In 2016, during the production of the eighth installment, “The Fate of the Furious,” tensions between Diesel and Johnson reached a boiling point. A source close to the production told People Magazinethat their issues had been “building up for months.”

“Vin has been having problems with The Rock because The Rock keeps showing up late for production,” the source explained. “Sometimes he doesn’t show up at all, and he’s delaying the production.”

The insider’s remarks came shortly after Johnson posted a now-deleted Instagram message in August 2016. In the post, he seemingly called out Diesel without naming him directly. “There’s no other franchise that gets my blood boiling more than this one,” the actor wrote at the time. “My female costars are always amazing and I love ’em. My male costars, however, are a different story. Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don’t.”

He added, “The ones that don’t are too chicken sh-t to do anything about it anyway. Candy a–es. When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I’m not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling — you’re right.”

Vin seemed to make an effort to keep things amicable with Dwayne, complimenting his performance in the franchise and even publicly urging the “Moana” star to return for “Fast X.”

In November 2021, Vin took to Instagram, sharing that he had promised his late co-star Paul Walker the franchise would reach its 10th installment. “As you know, my children refer to you as Uncle Dwayne in my house. There is not a holiday that goes by that they and you don’t send well wishes… but the time has come,” Vin wrote. “I say this out of love… but you must show up, do not leave the franchise idle you have a very important role to play.”

Dwayne, however, saw Vin’s message as “an example of his manipulation,” telling CNN in December 2021, “I didn’t like that he brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker’s death. Leave them out of it.”

Despite the tension, the two ultimately managed to bury the hatchet in 2023 when Dwayne confirmed his return for “Fast X: Part 2,” set to release in 2026.

“Last summer Vin and I put all the past behind us,” he shared on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, in June of that year. “We’ll lead with brotherhood and resolve—and always take care of the franchise, characters & FANS that we love.”

Dwayne acknowledged that “despite having our differences, me and Vin, we’ve been like brothers for years,” explaining that they decided to put their feud behind them because their “plans are much bigger than ourselves.”

However, after the 2025 Golden Globes, fans can only speculate as to where their relationship stands now.
