Team India’s ace batter Virat Kohli had another disappointing outing in the second innings of the final Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Virat Kohli perished early again while poking at an outside off-stump delivery from Scott Boland to the slip fielders in the Test match.
The Jasprit Bumrah-led team bowled out Australia for 181 in the first innings on Saturday, January 4. Debutant Beau Webster scored his maiden Test half-century to rescue the home team. The visitors started their second innings on a positive note but lost quick wickets, allowing Australia to come back.

The dismissal occurred in the 14th over of India’s second innings. Scott Boland bowled an outside off-stump delivery, similar to the one that dismissed Kohli in the first innings. Kohli poked at it with hard hands, despite having the option to leave the ball. Steve Smith completed a simple catch at second slip.
The 36-year-old batter walked off in frustration, visibly upset with his dismissal. Kohli was dismissed for 6 runs off 12 balls, leaving India at 59/3 in the second innings. Also, Anushka Sharma sitting in the stands looked dejected.

There Are a Lot of Expectations from Virat Kohli – Aakash Chopra
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra said that Kohli has been retained in the playing XI despite poor form in recent years. Chopra pointed out that Rohit Sharma has had a slightly better record over the last four years despite a form slump.
“Virat Kohli again got out outside off. It’s been an entire series. You might say that I should talk more about (Shubman) Gill but he didn’t play the first and fourth Tests. He has played two or three knocks and there also he looked decent. Yashasvi Jaiswal was wow in the last Test match and (KL) Rahul has had a decent series,” he said.
“There are a lot of expectations from Virat Kohli. He has scored a hundred for sure but he hasn’t scored the runs after that. He is with the bowlers if you see the first-innings average in 2024. Rohit Sharma has made himself sit out. Of course, his form has gone drastically but if you see the last four years, Rohit Sharma has actually fared a little better,” Chopra added.
The Delhi-born cricketer has accumulated 1,912 runs in 63 innings at an average of 31.86 across 36 Tests since the start of 2021. In comparison, Rohit Sharma has scored 2,160 runs in 35 Tests during the same period, at a higher average of 36.00.
