Delhi Capitals’ (DC) Annabel Sutherland pulled off an astonishing catch to send Amelia Kerr back to the pavilion, leaving Mumbai Indians (MI) in disbelief at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Match 13 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025.
Annabel Sutherland stuns with a spectacular catch in WPL 2025
The moment unfolded in the 17th over when Minnu Mani delivered a shortish ball on the stumps that appeared to stick in the surface. Kerr, attempting a pull shot, was deceived by the lack of pace and extra bounce, resulting in a mistimed top edge.
Sutherland, stationed at long-on, had plenty of ground to cover. She sprinted forward with perfect judgment, kept her eyes locked on the ball, and, in a full-length dive, completed a breathtaking low catch. The crowd erupted in appreciation as the Delhi Capitals fielders rushed towards Sutherland, celebrating the sensational effort. Even the commentators hailed it as a contender for the best catch of the WPL 2025 season.
For Mumbai, Kerr’s dismissal was a major setback. They had just returned from a strategic time-out, hoping to rebuild their innings. Sutherland’s catch lifted the Capitals’ morale and shifted the momentum firmly in their favour. The precision, athleticism, and commitment she displayed made this one of the standout moments of the tournament.

Delhi Capitals bowlers dominate as Mumbai Indians struggle to 123/9
Delhi put on a clinical bowling display to restrict Mumbai to a modest total of 123/9 in their WPL 2025 clash at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Opting to field first after winning the toss, Delhi’s bowlers kept Mumbai’s batting lineup under pressure throughout the innings.
Mumbai got off to a decent start with Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews adding 35 runs for the opening wicket. However, the momentum shifted when Shikha Pandey dismissed Bhatia in the sixth over. Matthews fell soon after to Sutherland, triggering a collapse. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur looked promising with a 16-ball 22 but was trapped lbw by Jess Jonassen, leaving Mumbai reeling at 73/3.
Nat Sciver-Brunt played a sluggish knock of 18 off 22 balls before Jonassen struck again to remove her. Kerr tried to rebuild the innings but was dismissed for 17, thanks to a spectacular diving catch by Sutherland off Mani’s bowling. Mumbai’s lower order crumbled under pressure, with Sajeevan Sajana (5), G Kamalini (1) and Sanskriti Gupta (3) falling cheaply. Jonassen and Mani were the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets each, while Sutherland and Pandey chipped in with a wicket apiece. Delhi now have a great opportunity to chase down the target and continue their strong run in the tournament.
