WATCH: Punjab’s Arshdeep Singh delivers a marquee performance against Maharashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25

The young Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh is eyeing to cement his place as a regular starter in the Indian team. This is evident from the kind of lethal fast bowling the 25-year-old has resorted to for his domestic side Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25.

A deadly swing balling spell from Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep took advantage of the favourable conditions of spin bowling in Vadodara during the initial hours after Punjab won the toss and elected to bowl first. Arshdeep was almost unplayable during the initial hours of the game, troubling the opening pair of skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Arshin Kulkani.

The Maharashtra skipper was particularly frustrated with the lateral seam movement from Arshdeep who soon gave his wicket away scoring just 5 runs off 5 balls. Top-order batter Siddhesh Veer was the next prey for the swing sensation as he fell to a remarkable out-swing delivery and went back to the pavilion on a duck. Youngster Kulkarni was the next Maharashtra who was dismissed by Arshdeep. The 19-year-old scored an impeccable century against an able opposition in a crucial game before giving a simple catch to Punjab skipper Abhishek Sharma.

Overall, Arshdeep bowled 9 overs for Punjab and took 3 crucial wickets giving away 56 runs in that spell. The clinical performance from Arshdeep helped Punjab stop Maharashtra from heading towards a gigantic total in the 3rd quarter-final of the tournament. Arshdeep has a coveted career for Punjab taking 66 first-class wickets in 21 matches. The youngster has impressed fans and analysts playing for India in the T20I format. Arshdeep has taken a total of 95 wickets in 60 T20I matches for the national side.

He was well-supported by A.R.Bawane, who contributed a steady 60 off 85 balls. N.S.Naik provided the late fireworks with an unbeaten 52 off just 29 deliveries, smashing 3 fours and 3 sixes to propel the team to a strong finish. The winner of this contest between the two teams will face the winner of the 2nd quarter-final between Vidarbha and Rajasthan in the semi-finals of the prestigious tournament.
