World record alert! Ayush Mhatre becomes youngest cricketer in history to achieve this feat


India Under-19 sensation Ayush Mhatre is among the headlines once again as he has broken a world record in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. He became the youngest batter ever to score 150 or more runs in a List A cricket match.

Ayush Mhatre achieved this milestone during the match between Mumbai and Nagaland played during the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. During this innings, he also broke the record previously held by Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Ayush Mhatre creates a world record in the Vijay Hazare Trophy

At 17 years and 168 days, Ayush Mhatre is now the youngest player to score 150 runs or more in List A cricket. Mhatre smashed 181 off just 117 balls at a blistering strike rate of 154.70. He struck 15 fours and 11 sixes during his knock.

It was an excellent knock from the India Under-19 opener who has grabbed headlines for his sensational performances in the Under-19 Asia Cup recently where India lost to Bangladesh in the final.

Earlier, the record was held by Yashasvi Jaiswal who scored 150 plus runs when his age was 17 years and 291 days. Jaiswal scored a terrific double-hundred against Jharkhand in the 2019 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The left-handed opener scored 203 off 154 balls with 17 fours and 12 sixes and helped Mumbai win the match. Both Mhatre and Jaiswal are from Mumbai and have shown immense batting potential.

Mumbai register a huge win

Meanwhile, it was a superlative performance from Mumbai as they came back from the defeat to Punjab in the previous match. Nagaland elected to field first on a good batting surface at Narendra Modi, Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Mumbai started brilliantly with the openers Ayush Mhatre and Angkrish Raghuvanshi giving them a flying start. Raghuvanshi was dismissed for 56 off 66 balls but Mhatre carried on and kept playing his shots. The opener showed his class and stamped his authority in a magnificent innings which was filled with fours and sixes.

There weren’t big contributions from the middle order but Prasad Pawar and Shardul Thakur ensured Mumbai crossed the 400-run mark. Thakur smashed a fiery 73 off just 28 balls with 2 fours and 8 sixes to help Mumbai post 403-8 in 50 overs.

It was always going to be a tough ask for Nagaland and they were never in the game. Allrounder Jagadeesha Suchith smashed a brilliant hundred and finished on 104 off 97 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes.

Shardul Thakur shone with the ball as well with 3-17 in 5 overs. Royston Dias and Suryansh Shedge also picked up two wickets each for Mumbai. With this win, Mumbai are now positioned third in their group with 3 wins and 2 defeats.
