Former India cricketer Yograj Singh has taken a U-turn on his comments on the legendary captain MS Dhoni. Yograj recently called Dhoni a “motivated captain” who knew how to read the wicket and get the best out of his bowlers.
Yograj also called Dhoni “fearless” and revealed an incident when he was unfazed by a fearsome bowler in the world. The recent comments by Yograj come as a huge shock as he had previously slammed Dhoni for destroying the career of his son Yuvraj Singh.

Yograj Singh takes a shocking U-turn on MS Dhoni
While speaking on a YouTube show “Unfiltered by Samdish”, Yograj Singh was asked about MS Dhoni and his captaincy. Yograj called Dhoni a motivated captain and claimed that he could read a wicket quickly.
“I find (MS) Dhoni as a very motivated captain, who can tell people what to do. The best thing about Dhoni was that he could read the wicket can tell bowlers where to bowl,” Yograj observed.
By calling him a ‘fearless’ man, Yograj cited an incident that showed the world how fearless Dhoni was. He also feels that players with such a fearless attitude are very less in modern-day cricket.
“What I liked the most about him was that he was a fearless man. If you remember in Australia, he was hit on the grill my Mitchell Johnson and he didn’t moved a bit, he stood there and next ball he pulled him for a six. Aise log kaafi kam hote hai (There are very few people like him),” he added.
During an interview with Zee Switch’s YouTube channel in 2024, Yograj Singh had launched a scathing attack on MS Dhoni and blamed him for finishing the career of Yuvraj Singh. He even asked Dhoni to look into the mirror and refused to forgive him.
“I won’t forgive MS Dhoni. He should look at his face in the mirror. He is a very big cricketer, but what he has done against my son, everything is coming out now; it can never be forgiven in life,” Yograj had said.
He even went to the extent of asking for Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, for his son Yuvraj Singh for winning the World Cup for India in 2011 despite suffering from cancer.
“I dare everyone to give birth to a son like Yuvraj. Even Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag have said in the past that there won’t be another Yuvraj Singh. India should award him the Bharat Ratna for playing with cancer and winning the World Cup for the country,” he had reckoned.
MS Dhoni set to play IPL 2025
MS Dhoni retired from international cricket in August 2020. However, he is still an active player in the Indian Premier League. The legendary wicketkeeper-batter has continued to play for Chennai Super Kings even after retirement and led the team to IPL title wins in 2021 and 2023.
Dhoni will be next seen in action during IPL 2025 after he was retained by the franchise under the uncapped player category. He was retained by CSK for INR 4 crore. He dismissed reports of his retirement and wants to enjoy the game as long as he plays.
