Zepeda Ready For Farmer’s Challenge

William Zepeda (31-0, 27 KOs) recognizes that he can’t slip up against Tevin Farmer this Saturday, November 16th, on Latino Night at The Venue in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Zepeda, 28, knows that Farmer (33-6-1, 8 KOs) is using him as a stepping stone for a new beginning.

This is a second chance for the 34-year-old former IBF super featherweight champion Farmer, who is coming off a loss to Raymond Muratalla. If Farmer can win this fight, he’ll be a possible opponent for WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson.

Farmer Not Being Overlooked

“All divisions are hard, but this one in particular has a bit of everything. That’s also something that motivates me and gets me up early every day to train hard,” said William Zepeda to DAZN Boxing about the lightweight division being a good one.

The lightweight division is a stacked one with ten good fighters, and more moving up all the time. That’s where the money is at for fighters.

“It’s an important challenge, where it’s about proving who William Zepeda is,” said Zepeda bout his fight against Tevin Farmer. “We know Tevin Farmer’s skills and experience. We know he’s a strong rival, even if he’s not been very active.

“He knows this is a big opportunity for him, too. A win against William Zepeda could open doors for him. That’s what our rivals see: a chance to open doors, but we have to rise to the occasion to win and keep advancing,” said Zepeda.

Farmer hopes to defeat Zepeda and put himself in a world title fight against Shakur on February 22nd in Riyadh. That would be a big payday for Farmer if he could take Zepeda’s place as the challenger for Shakur’s opponent.

Zepeda Wants Tank or Shakur

“We just need the champions to say yes, to agree to fight the #1 contender. We’ve proven that we’re capable of fighting for a world championship. Now, we just need the fight to be confirmed and for the champions to accept,” said Zepeda.

Shakur has already said yes to a fight against Zepeda. That fight will be available to him next February in Riyadh if he wants it. Of course, if Zepeda can get a title shot against Tank Davis, he’ll gladly accept it.

“We’re excited for the chance. I know the door that’s opening for me, and we’re going to make the most of it. I think it’s a matter of being given the opportunity to fight for a world title. A really good fight against someone like Shakur Stevenson or against Gervonta, showing what we’re made of,” said Zepeda.

It sounds like Zepeda is hoping to possibly get a title shot against WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis rather than just WBC champ Shakur Stevenson. He knows the money he can make fighting Tank is going to be considerably more than fighting Shakur.
